KAWARTHA LAKES - Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes has announced that some changes will be upcoming to the Meals on Wheels program in the former Mariposa Township.
Beginning in August, the program will be providing food prepared at Buttertarts 'N More family restaurant, the agency announced in a press release.
The hot meals are delivered to Mariposa area residents on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the year, including holidays. "We are delighted with the arrangement with Buttertarts 'N More," said program manager Linda McLean. "(Restaurant partners) Linda Moss and John Lenneville have been very co-operative to work with and we are looking forward to being able to offer our current and future clients a good meal."
Meals on Wheels provides hot and frozen meals to those who are experiencing difficulty with meal preparation. The program ensures that clients' nutritional needs are met while also providing social interaction and a security check, as volunteers who make the deliveries also make sure that clients as well, officials stated in the press release.
The cost of the meals is $5 until September when their will be a slight increase to $6. Mariposa residents wishing to order Meals on Wheels can contact Community Care volunteer Elaine Grills at 786-2811. Meals should be ordered three days in advance, McLean said. Meals on Wheels is an initiative facilitated by Community Care volunteers and funded by the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes.
